West View Manor Committed to Excellence
For 55 years, West View Manor, Inc. has served older adults by offering a full spectrum of living options including independent living villas, assisted living residences in both Town Square and Town Square East, specialized assisted living suites for the memory impaired in Bridges, and skill nursing and rehabilitation care. The staff at West View Manor has built a reputation for dedicated care with the opportunity to provide residents a meaningful quality of life in a friendly, concerned atmosphere.
In December 2010, Jerry Blackmore joined the staff at West View Manor as administrator. Blackmore has been in the nursing home and retirement community field for more than 30 years, most recently at St. Augustine Manor in Cleveland. St Augustine is known for its variety of services to hope those in need, while receiving perfect surveys for its facility and resident care.
While Mr. Blackmore's main focus is on resident centered care and the quality of life that results, he has another goal in mind for the future of West View Manor. "We may be one of the best kept secrets in town", he says. "I want the community to know who we are, what we are, and to understand that we recognize that culture change and transformations are not destinations but a journey --always a work in progress. West View Manor's commitment to excellence reaches beyond the walls that contain us as a facility into the community to those who need our services". For instance, he envisions opportunities to work with local schools and their students in which the students develop relationships with residents and in turn learn about the aging process as it's "not just about getting old". Blackmore also recognizes the many rewarding career opportunities available in a nursing facility and wants to enlighten the students in this area of employment. "We don't only want to reach out to the community, but we welcome volunteers from the community to assist with our ministry at West View Manor", said Blackmore.
West View Manor offers the ability to socialize with outings and activities for the residents. We also have a full-time chaplain, Pastor Eric Fairhurst, and offer chapel services, Bible studies and spiritual counseling, not only to the residents and staff, but these services are extended to the public as well. We have two chapel services on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and invite the public to participate in these services.
Emily Maglott, Director of Community Relations, is looking forward to working with Mr Blackmore and helping to provide the highest quality of care possible to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of each resident in the West View community. "I have witnessed imporved morale both with residents and staff. We are excited about the wealth of information Jerry brings to West View Manor and the high expectations he has for resident care. He promotes an "open door policy" with the residents, their family and the staff which creates a tremendous atmosphere of accessibility and persona involvement and in turn, creates an attitude of support," said Maglott.
West View Manor operates as a non profit Christian ministry under the leadership of a volunteer Board of Directors with no private or corporate investors. The Board is responsive to local needs and reinvests resources to increase staffing, improve facilities and enhance services, not to benefit owners or increase company value. Clearly nonprofit organizations perform a crucial role in our society and West View Manor is proud to be among them.
